Mindy Hardwick is an author and educator whose stories are often set in the Pacific Northwest celebrating art and community. Mindy facilitated a poetry workshop in a juvenile detention and wrote about the experience in her memoir, Kids in Orange: Voices from Juvenile Detention. Mindy's digital picture book, Finders Keepers is about the annual float find in Lincoln City, Oregon. Mindy’s sweet contemporary romances, Sweetheart Summer and Sweetheart Cottage, are based on the towns of Wheeler and Nehalem. Mindy is a volunteer for the Haystack Rock Awareness Program in Cannon Beach and her middle grade novel, inspired by that experience, is on submission. Currently, she is working a series of books from the viewpoint of her cocker spaniel and an excerpt, “Fall on the Coast: A Dog’s View” was selected as a part of the Cannon Beach Library Writer’s Read Celebration.
Jay Speakman packs about three dozen harmonicas and plays most of them during show. He’s a bluesman, he’s a cowboy, he’s a gypsy, he’s a heavy loaded freight train going up a steep hill, he’s heavy traffic on El Camino Real. He writes lyrics that take listeners downeast to the mackereling and and lobstering grounds off the Maine coast, to the harbors and halibut grounds of the Gulf of Alaska.
Jon Broderick's guitar and occasional old-time banjo playing keep the sound friendly and back porch. With melodies both manouche and American, his songs travel from the mudflats of Bristol Bay, through southeast Alaska’s narrow channels, clear to the bistros of the Silicon Valley.
Speakman and Broderik can keep fans tapping their feet and smiling all evening.
